Brain Squares

These Brain Squares are mixed media on 12” x 12” birch plywood and are part of an ongoing project that includes both pre-planned and improvised components. This series is also informed by music as is my current tapestry work. The pre-planned aspect is that all include the same brain image made using two stencils and enamel spray paint with different combinations of color for each. There are 64 Squares planned for this series and the stenciled color combinations are all unique. The background in all these pieces is the improvised part. For that, I use colored Sharpie markers and "auto-draw" each one. The music I have on in the background and my emotional state as I go, both contribute to making each Square unique and unreplicable. I am only about half way through this project. The plan is to have all 64 of these squares arranged to be seen in an 8' x 8' format.
